The contenders and fringe contenders are beginning to show themselves in the Big Ten. At the same time, six programs have been eliminated from contention.
The 2026 Big Ten College Football Playoff landscape entered Week 6 with several teams vying for a spot in the championship. Ohio State, led by rising star Jeremiah Smith, remains atop the conference with a perfect record. Indiana, coming off a tough game against Northwestern, is poised for a strong run with their dominant rushing attack and star players Nick Marsh and Charlie Becker.
Oregon, after an offseason injury scare, could also be in the mix should quarterback Dante Moore return to form. USC and Nebraska, both 5-0, have also shown impressive resilience and could challenge for a playoff berth. Meanwhile, teams like Iowa, UCLA, and Northwestern, while impressive in their own right, still have a steep climb ahead to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff.
