South Africa next? Deepal adds combustion assistance to S07
For the moment, the new variant of Changan-owned Deepal's flagship model is reserved solely for Greece.
Changan-owned Deepal has introduced a range-extending version of the S07 for the first time outside of China. This PHEV variant debuted in Greece over the weekend. Despite the "PHEV" label, the engine functions as a generator for the electric system. The S07 PHEV features a redesigned lower air intake, new alloy wheels, different bumpers, semi-concealed door handles, and rear exhaust outlets.
However, its overall dimensions remain unchanged, measuring 4,750 mm in length, 2,900 mm in wheelbase, 1,625 mm in height, and 1,930 mm in width. The range-extending powertrain is equipped with a 1.5-litre, normally aspirated petrol engine generating 70 kW and a 18.4-kWh battery pack powering a single electric motor. Together, they produce 190 kW.
With DC charging up to 55 kW, the vehicle boasts an EV-only range of 100 km and a total range of 1,000 km with the combustion engine included. Changan has not yet decided if this model will be available in other markets, including South Africa. The first range-extending EV, the S05, is set to launch in South Africa before the end of the year.
