Russia vs Nigeria LIVE UPDATES: Super Eagles seek redemption in Nizhny Novgorod

Former Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has expressed confidence that Russia will emerge victorious in their upcoming international friendly against Nigeria. The Super Eagles will face off against the 2018 World Cup hosts at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in an attempt to bounce back from their recent 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in the 2027 Afcon qualifiers.

Russia has been in scintillating form, winning their last four matches, scoring 14 goals, and maintaining a clean sheet. Despite their impressive run of success, Pavlyuchenko anticipates a tough challenge from Nigeria, urging Russia to apply relentless pressure right from the start to secure their first win over the three-time African champions.

"Russia must win," Pavlyuchenko told Stavka TV. "We're on a good run, creating and scoring a lot, and we're playing at home." He cautioned that it won't be an easy victory and advised Russia to press Nigeria aggressively throughout the match. The two teams met in a 1-1 draw in June 2025, with Nigeria equalizing through Tolu Arokodare after an own goal by Semi Ajayi.

The Super Eagles gathered for their pre-match team walk at 11:40am local time and are set to depart for the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium at 2:45pm. The friendly match is scheduled to kick off at 5:00pm.
