MTN Ghana has called upon small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to make use of business support programs, investment chances, and international alliances to grow their operations and make a bigger impact on Ghana's economic expansion. This message was delivered at the 2026 MTN SMEGA Awards ceremony, held at the Alisa Hotel, concluding a year-long program centered around business development, skill enhancement, and market access.
The program identifies outstanding companies in various industries, such as agribusiness and manufacturing, while creating avenues for businesses to enhance their operations and draw in investment.
Mohammed Abubakari-Sidick, Senior Manager for SME Sales, Business Broadband, and Partnerships at MTN Ghana, emphasized that the awards were established to honor businesses and boost their visibility. He further explained that the program had exposed the participating businesses to the media and wider markets, opening up opportunities for them to secure new collaborations.
He added that the mere recognition itself offered a considerable advantage by providing a platform for these SMEs to showcase their accomplishments to the world.
Kwesi Ofori Jnr, Executive Director of SME GrowAfrica LBG, indicated that the SMEGA initiative has been assisting businesses since 2013 through training, market access, and investment chances. He explained that recognition could assist businesses in finding the right path, the appropriate partners, and positioning themselves for growth.
He added that by acknowledging a business, one sets them on a clear path, provides them with a tag to ensure they are positioned to attract more partners and position themselves for expansion.
This year's award recipients are anticipated to benefit from business insurance, a mini-MBA program, a trade mission to Asia, and meetings with international investors. Mr. Ofori Jnr stated that the support was intended to equip entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and knowledge to capitalize on emerging possibilities. He highlighted that knowledge acquisition and skill development were crucial aspects of the support program.
