View at EarthSky Community Photos - On October 6, 2026, the moon passed in front of Jupiter for some viewers in most of the United States, Mexico, southeast Canada, and extending to the southern half of west Africa. Steven Bellavia from Cherry Springs State Park, Pennsylvania, captured an image showing the moon partially obscuring Jupiter.
In his photograph, you can also see Jupiter's four largest and brightest moons. Other observers captured stunning images of the moon and Jupiter. Karl Diefenderfer from Quakertown, Pennsylvania, photographed the event shortly after Jupiter emerged from behind the moon, also showing four of the gas giant's moons. Wes Inman from Torrington, Connecticut, shared a shot of Jupiter approaching the moon.
Joel Weatherly in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, managed to capture the moon and Jupiter peeking through a gap in the trees. Eliot Herman in Tucson, Arizona, took a photo of the moon and Jupiter with its own moons, even though they were not in the occultation zone. Julie Hubbard from Carson, Virginia, called her photo "the moon getting kissed," describing the beautiful sight she witnessed.
