The Kwara State Government has unveiled an ambitious plan to purchase shares in the Dangote Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO) for female educators in the state. This initiative aims to promote investment and financial inclusion among teachers. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq revealed this during a special event marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day in Ilorin.
As part of this new initiative, the government plans to acquire 10,000 shares in the Dangote Refinery for ten female teachers in each of the state's outstanding public schools. This scheme will also extend to retired female teachers. AbdulRazaq explained that Dangote Foundation will provide subscription grants for women, matching each share purchased by the state, thus doubling the investment to twenty shares.
The hardworking women teachers at the TESCOM and SUBEB (State Universal Basic Education Board) will receive ten shares each, while retired female teachers will also benefit from this program to ensure a lasting impact. AbdulRazaq directed the Head of Service, Dr Olufunke Mercy Shittu, to establish the necessary procedures for including qualified retired female teachers in this initiative.
This investment program is part of broader efforts to enhance the welfare and economic opportunities for teachers in Kwara. The governor also presented financial awards amounting to about N120 million to outstanding education stakeholders. Among the recipients were 29 best principals and head teachers, each awarded N29 million, and 119 outstanding teachers, who collectively received N59.5 million.
