ALOR SETAR, October 6 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Kedah has arrested three people, including a senior government official, on suspicion of accepting and providing bribes worth roughly RM155,000. According to an MACC insider, the other two individuals, a civil servant and a business owner, were accused of accepting the bribes to approve a quote for sports attire supply.
The suspects, aged between 40 and 50, were apprehended between 5 PM and 9 PM yesterday while at the Kedah MACC office to provide statements. Preliminary investigations indicated that all three suspects had conspired to commit the offense between 2024 and 2025. It was further revealed that the two civil servant suspects had obtained the bribes in both cash and through money transfers to their personal bank accounts.
Kedah MACC director Datuk Nazli Rasyid Sulong confirmed the arrests and stated that the case is under investigation under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009. A five-day remand order was granted for all suspects until October 10 following a MACC application to the Magistrate's Court this morning.
