‘Insulates Him Against an In-season Firing’ — NFL Insider Reveals How Todd Bowles Could Stay As Bucs HC Despite Being ‘On Very, Very Thin Ice’

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles may be in precarious position following their recent 17–14 loss to the Green Bay Packers, but an NFL insider believes his job may be more secure than initially appears. Mike Florio, a respected NFL analyst, explained on Monday’s “Pro Football Talk” show that Bowles could be insulated from an in-season firing due to the coaching staff he has built.

Florio pointed out that there isn’t an obvious candidate to take over as head coach if Bowles was fired. This is because the team’s coaching staff, which includes offensive coordinator Zac Robinson and special teams coordinator Danny Smith, both hired this offseason, does not list a defensive coordinator. The absence of a clear leader in this situation could provide Bowles with time to consider his options without feeling immediate pressure to resign.

Following the Cowboys game, where undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels made his first NFL start, Florio predicted that the Buccaneers will be facing significant challenges on Thursday night. With their quarterback Dak Prescott performing well, Florio said that Tampa Bay will likely step into a 'buzzsaw' situation against Dallas, potentially ending their season with a 0-5 record.

The lack of an obvious replacement for Bowles may, in fact, work to his advantage. A loss against Dallas would likely result in more discussions about his future, but without a clear successor, Bowles may be able to argue that he deserves the chance to turn things around during the extended break between games.
