Malaysian police have dismantled an international scam syndicate operating from an abandoned resort in Kuantan, according to Immigration Department officials. The syndicate rented the former resort, which closed in 2025, for RM30,000 per month to serve as a 24-hour call center.

Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban revealed that 98 individuals, including 95 foreigners and three Malaysians, were arrested in the operation conducted by the Intelligence and Special Operations Division. The detainees ranged in age from 20 to 75 and hailed from China, Myanmar, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Russia. The resort owner was also among those arrested.

The syndicate allegedly used 11 Starlink satellite internet sets to evade local telecommunication monitoring. Authorities seized various equipment, including 11 Starlink satellite sets, 100 mobile phones, 120 computer sets, a CCTV system, nine SIM card packages, and RM5,000 in cash. The foreign suspects are being investigated for immigration offenses such as unlawful entry, overstaying, and breach of pass conditions under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963.

The Malaysians were detained for harboring illegal immigrants. All detainees have been transferred to the Putrajaya Immigration Office for further investigation.
