The Accra High Court has postponed the trial of former Chief Executive Officer Solomon Asamoah and the Fund’s Board Chair Christopher Akumfi of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF). This decision came after counsel for the first accused requested the court to pause proceedings until the Supreme Court ruled on an application for a halt to the trial.
The High Court was set to commence the case management conference on October 5, 2026, but the request for adjournment has been granted. Ms Barth, representing Solomon Asamoah, stated that the former CEO had sought the Supreme Court's supervisory jurisdiction, seeking orders of certiorari and prohibition, as well as an injunction.
Despite the Supreme Court's rejection of Mr. Asamoah's earlier injunction application, Ms. Barth argued that continuing the trial before the Supreme Court's decision could jeopardize her client's case and potentially invalidate the Supreme Court's application. Two additional witnesses for the defense were also unavailable or outside the jurisdiction, requiring court permission for their statements.
The prosecution, however, pointed out that the filing of an application at the Supreme Court does not automatically halt proceedings at the High Court. The case was subsequently adjourned to Monday, October 19, 2026.
