Egyptian President to Arrive Wednesday for State Visit

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is set to embark on a state visit to South Korea this week, according to a statement from Lee's office on Tuesday. The purpose of the visit, at the invitation of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, is to engage in discussions on various economic and international matters.

Lee Jae Myung invited El-Sisi to arrive in South Korea on Wednesday, with plans for a three-day stay, including a summit meeting on Thursday. In a written briefing, Kang Yu-jung, a spokesperson for President Lee, outlined the expected topics for discussion during the summit. These discussions will focus on economic cooperation, encompassing trade and investment, infrastructure, and supply chains.

Additionally, the leaders aim to expand people-to-people exchanges, explore the regional political landscape, and address international issues.

This visit marks El-Sisi's first to South Korea since 2016, with their last meeting occurring during Lee's visit to Egypt in November. According to Kang Yu-jung, the Egyptian president's state visit presents a significant opportunity to evolve Korea-Egypt relations into a strategic partnership. The spokesperson also highlighted the potential for strengthening cooperation between Egypt, South Korea, and the broader Africa and Middle East regions.
