Domestic worker in hospital after falling into open well in Fujairah

In a tragic incident in Fujairah, a domestic worker was hospitalized after falling into an open indoor well at her employer's residence. The rescue operation involved a child who had also fallen into the well, leading authorities to release a safety warning to the public. Colonel Khalid Rabie Al Hamoudi, the Deputy Director of Fujairah Civil Defence, personally inspected the family's well and the condition of the child at Fujairah Hospital. Similarly, authorities visited the domestic worker who was recovering in the hospital.

In response to the incident, the authorities issued an urgent safety advisory to property owners, farmers, and landowners, urging them to secure all wells with protective barriers and warning signs. The Fujairah Police emphasized that wells should never be left uncovered or unfenced, as such negligence poses a significant danger to children and adults, potentially resulting in catastrophic accidents.

Individuals and entities planning to construct a private water well in Fujairah are required to obtain a permit from the Fujairah Environment Authority. This regulatory measure ensures that all wells are built in compliance with environmental standards and requirements. The process of obtaining a permit helps prevent unauthorized digging of groundwater wells, which can lead to severe penalties.

Violating the permit regulations could result in fines ranging from Dh2,000 to Dh10,000, with the severity of the fine depending on the extent of the violation.
