Delhi traffic alert: Connaught Place, Parliament Street choke amid INDIA bloc march

In Lutyens Delhi on Tuesday, traffic congestion severely impacted key roads as the INDIA bloc prepared to march to the Election Commission. Barricades, diversions, and security restrictions turned roads into slow-moving stretches, affecting movement from India Gate to Parliament Street and Jantar Mantar. Vehicles lined up bumper-to-bumper, causing long queues to spill onto adjacent roads as motorists searched for alternate routes.

Commuters were trapped for up to an hour, leading some to abandon their cars in favor of the Metro or walking to their destinations. The congestion was particularly severe on Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, Rafi Marg, Parliament Street, Motilal Nehru Marg, Teen Murti Marg, Prithviraj Road, Windsor Place, Ashoka Road, and Jantar Mantar Road.

Traffic was almost stagnant, with commuters reporting they were stuck for nearly an hour before resorting to alternative modes of transport. The disruption followed special traffic arrangements for the INDIA bloc march, which began at 8 am and aimed to protest the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. High security and barricading were deployed around Parliament and the Election Commission's offices, causing further traffic problems.

The police stated that these restrictions were necessary for VIP/VVIP movements and were imposed based on operational and security requirements, emphasizing that such measures were kept to a minimum duration.
