Cristiano Ronaldo: Apologise or risk being sacked – Rio Ferdinand tells Portugal coach Jesus

Cristiano Ronaldo is now earning $300 million (Dh 1.10 billion) annually, making him $150 million (Dh 550.8 million) richer than Lionel Messi, according to Sportico's list of the world’s highest-paid soccer players for 2026. Ronaldo’s total earnings consist of $250 million from his performances on the field and an additional $50 million from commercial ventures.

In contrast, Messi is projected to earn $150 million, with $75 million from on-field games and $75 million from his commercial activities. Messi currently plays for Inter Miami, where he signed a contract extension until 2028. Meanwhile, Ronaldo continues to expand his business interests, including partnerships with Dreame, Lego, and LiveModeTV, while also owning Catalan club UE Cornella and Spanish club CD Eldense.

Both athletes are also making significant decisions regarding their international careers. Messi will play his last match for Argentina against Benin on October 7, concluding his international career after winning the 2022 World Cup and Copa America. Ronaldo’s future with Portugal remains uncertain after his unexpected absence from the national team before a match against Denmark, sparking speculation about a rift between him and Portugal’s coach, Jorge Jesus. Despite this, Ronaldo still leads by $150 million over his rival Messi.
