A tragic three-vehicle collision at the Sofoline Interchange flyover in Kumasi left four individuals injured, including a one-and-a-half-year-old baby. The incident unfolded on Tuesday morning when a mini-bus commercial transport, a Toyota Corolla, and a motorized tricycle, colloquially known as a Pragia, collided. The bus driver, Kwabena Boahen, was en route from Goaso to Kejetia when the accident occurred.

He explained that as he descended the flyover towards Kejetia, he attempted to brake but found his brakes had failed. Despite his efforts to control the vehicle, it sped down the slope and collided with the other two vehicles. The bus, carrying 13 passengers, remained unharmed in the collision. Similarly, the Toyota Corolla, which was hit by the bus, also had no injuries among its occupants.

The Pragia, however, sustained significant damage and carried four people at the time of the crash, including the driver and the baby. All four victims of the Pragia required medical attention. Eyewitnesses to the crash reported that the Pragia was carrying the baby, as well as the driver. The impact of the crash severely damaged all three vehicles.

Passersby and other motorists rushed the injured to the nearby Suntreso government hospital for emergency medical care. The crash caused a temporary traffic jam on the busy Sofoline-Abuakwa stretch as the wreckage obstructed part of the road. Police Traffic Department personnel arrived at the scene to manage traffic and tow away the accident vehicles, allowing the road to reopen. Police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
