2027: We’ve started distributing non-sensitive materials to states – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun distributing non-sensitive materials to certain states in preparation for the 2027 general election, according to the commission's chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan. This announcement was made during a national stakeholders' meeting held in Abuja to mark the 100 days leading up to the election.

Amupitan revealed that offshore production and fleet contracts have been awarded, and significant progress has been made in producing 57,000 new BVAS devices. Additionally, delivery of new operational vehicles is underway across the nation. He also mentioned that civil works, the construction of dedicated BVAS storage facilities, and local government area offices are progressing, alongside nationwide office renovations.

"Some states have started receiving non-sensitive materials ahead of the election, and procurement for the printing of ballot papers and results sheets is nearly completed," Amupitan stated. The commission has also secured the contract for solar power installation across all its offices, as well as ICT infrastructure upgrades for critical applications and core infrastructures.

The procurement department is closely monitoring suppliers, contractors, and interdepartmental delivery schedules to ensure alignment with statutory timelines.
