Bekas setiausaha politik kanan kepada perdana menteri beritahu mahkamah beliau mahu lakukan perjalanan ke Jerman, England, Ireland, dan Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Shamsul Iskandar mohon dapatkan pasport secara kekal

Shamsul Iskandar Akin, former senior political aide to the Prime Minister, has petitioned the Syarikat Sesyen for a permanent passport to enable him to attend programs in various European countries. He submitted his application on September 30th, stating in his supporting affidavit that a permanent passport would allow him to travel abroad for work-related purposes.

Shamsul is scheduled to depart for Frankfurt and London this month, followed by Ireland in the coming month and Bosnia and Herzegovina in December. He expressed his desire to attend the Frankfurt Book Fair from October 7th to 11th at the invitation of the organizer, Rex Education. In his affidavit, he elaborated that this event aims to facilitate cross-regional cooperation and idea exchange, strengthening Asia's role in the global knowledge economy.

For the AlBaraka Summit in London from October 13th to 14th, Shamsul hopes to gain insights into international financial management practices and have the opportunity to interact with professionals from the industry and relevant stakeholders. He believes that the experience will be beneficial to share with Malaysia, particularly in supporting the development of the country's Islamic finance sector and strengthening Malaysia's bilateral commercial ties.

Shamsul also mentioned that he has been invited to work in Ireland from November 27th to December 4th for strategic business engagement and legal advisory services with Shannon Airport Transfers. He stated that the purpose of this visit is to identify concrete areas of cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties between Ireland and Malaysia in the fields of executive air travel, tourist mobility, premium hospitality logistics, and cross-border business cooperation.

Additionally, Shamsul was invited to participate in a series of discussions with the Mozaik Foundation in Bosnia and Herzegovina from December 16th to 23rd. He mentioned that these discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral ties between the Balkan country and Malaysia in the areas of economic development, entrepreneurship, and social transformation.

In the petition, Shamsul's lawyer, Yusmadi Yusoff, informed the court that Shamsul has also requested a temporary passport for travel to Frankfurt and London. However, his co-counsel, Julaila Jamaludin, argued based on Shamsul's affidavit that the document is merely an invitation letter and that some discussions can be conducted via video conference.

She questioned the necessity of Shamsul's attendance in the mentioned programs, which could potentially be attended by others. Judge Suzana Hussin granted the temporary passport release for the trips to Frankfurt and London, setting December 8th to deliver the final decision on Shamsul's application for a permanent passport release.

In a previous hearing on December 4th, Shamsul was charged with receiving RM100,000 and RM40,000 from businessman Albert Tei for assistance in obtaining mineral exploration licenses in Sabah. He was also charged with receiving RM14,580 and RM22,249 worth of electrical equipment and tools. The following day, he faced charges in Shah Alam Syarikat Sesyen for receiving RM64,924 in rental payments from Tei, allegedly to assist Tei's company in obtaining the same licenses.

The Shah Alam case was transferred to Kuala Lumpur Syarikat Sesyen to be heard alongside other cases.
