Penggunaan AI, ekonomi digital perlu seimbang, elak isu sosial, kata Fahmi

Menteri Komunikasi Fahmi Fadzil emphasized the need for a balance between AI, digital economy, and social issues during a session at the Launchpad Framework for Future Skills in Communication and Multimedia (C&M FSF) and Strategic Talent Development Initiative in Kuala Lumpur today. Speaking on the panel for "Technology Driving Change: Is Malaysian Talent Ready?", Fahmi warned that without proper regulation, rapid technological advancement could harm the job market and damage the existing business ecosystem.

"If technology is allowed to proceed too freely without checks, it risks undermining the welfare of workers and tarnishing the established business environment," he stated. He added that the government aims to encourage progress but at a cost. "If it is too free without regulation, there will be consequences... if too many people lose their jobs or fail to earn fair wages, there will be pressure."

Maintaining a balance between allowing companies and businesses to innovate is crucial, Fahmi said, without causing social problems or undermining national security. Following the session, Fahmi assured university graduates, recent graduates, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions that emerging technologies will also lead to the creation of new job categories.

"Various sectors under the Ministry of Communications will need to consider aspects such as recent Bachelor's graduates, university graduates, and TVET outcomes. At the government level, we will strive to ensure that enough job opportunities are available to allow these companies to hire more people, especially young individuals," Fahmi said.

The joint statement from the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Higher Education, and the Ministry of Human Resources clarified the launch of the C&M FSF, organized by the Communication and Multimedia Commission (SKMM). The event aims to serve as a strategic reference for developing talent in the sector over the next five to ten years.

To ensure the national framework's success, the Future Skills Talent Council (FSTC) was established under the leadership of the Ministry of Human Resources in collaboration with SKMM, while the Ministry of Higher Education focused on strengthening the curriculum and graduate competencies in line with future industry needs.
