Perth Scorchers have signed Pakistan women's cricket team captain Fatima Sana for the upcoming Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) season 12. The 24-year-old all-rounder agreed to a one-year contract and will be available for the Scorchers' first eight matches. This signing makes Fatima Sana only the second Pakistani woman to feature in the WBBL, following Nida Dar who played for Sydney Thunder in WBBL 05.
Sana expressed her excitement about joining Perth Scorchers, stating that playing in the WBBL has been a dream of hers for a long time. She has made her international debut for Pakistan in 2019 and was named ICC Women's Emerging Cricketer of the Year in 2021. This season, Sana has been a standout performer for Pakistan, taking 11 wickets and being named in the Team of the Tournament at the 2024 T20 World Cup.
She has also scored 540 runs and taken 31 wickets in T20Is this year. Fatima Sana's signing completes Perth Scorchers' overseas lineup for WBBL 12, with England all-rounder Freya Kemp and New Zealand star Sophie Devine also returning.
