MTN Ghana, in collaboration with the Sunyani Municipal Health Directorate and Suncity Radio, organized a health walk and free health screening event in Sunyani to promote physical fitness and encourage residents to undergo regular health checks. The initiative, part of MTN Ghana's SunCity Fest community engagement program, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
A large number of residents, including fitness enthusiasts and football players, participated in the event, marching through key streets of the municipality to the sound of a brass band. At Sunyani Coronation Park, participants underwent a comprehensive health check, which included screening for blood pressure, HIV, eye, ear, nose, and throat conditions, breast examination, Hepatitis B, and general medical consultations.
All services were provided free of charge. The Municipal Health Promotion Officer of the Sunyani Municipal Hospital, Ms. Justine Takyiwaa, stated that participants found to have serious health issues would be referred to specialized facilities for further treatment. MTN Ghana's Bono Regional Manager, Mr. Kofi Owusu, emphasized that the exercise was part of the company's corporate social responsibility efforts to support its customers and give back to the communities they serve.
He also mentioned that the event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of regular health checks and motivate residents to adopt healthier lifestyles. The event's success is expected to screen at least 500 people at the end of the exercise.
