MTN deepens digital financial inclusion drive with MoMo App

MTN Ghana is intensifying its efforts to broaden its digital financial inclusion drive, urging customers to transition from basic mobile money (MoMo) transactions to utilizing the MoMo App as a comprehensive tool for managing and enhancing their financial lives. The initiative, showcased through the MomoFest events, aims to guide customers from merely sending and receiving money to leveraging a wider array of digital financial services to support savings, investment, borrowing, and long-term financial planning.

Isaac Agyenim Boateng, MTN Ghana's Manager for Brands and Communication, stated that the campaign aligns with MTN's overarching digital transformation strategy to make financial services more accessible, convenient, and pertinent to customers. He clarified that while many customers still depend on the *170# short code for straightforward MoMo transactions, the MoMo App has transformed into an all-in-one digital financial platform providing services beyond conventional money transfers.

Boateng explained that over the past two weeks, MTN has conducted activations across the Volta Region, including Ho and surrounding communities, engaging customers in their homes, offices, and other locations to assist them in downloading and comprehending how to utilize the application. His primary objective is not merely to boost app downloads but to empower customers to use digital financial services to make more informed financial decisions and enhance their economic well-being.

He assured customers about the MoMo platform's security, emphasizing that MTN has implemented measures to safeguard users and their transactions. Boateng cautioned customers against disclosing their MoMo PINs and one-time passwords to anyone, emphasizing that their PIN is their key to their wallet. MTN is complementing its technological security with ongoing customer education through social media campaigns, SMS alerts, weekly fraud-prevention tips, and educational content on YouTube.

Vendors participating in the MomoFest activities echoed the growing significance of cashless transactions for their businesses. Abandoned Grace Oma Mefut, a vendor, highlighted that digital payments have mitigated the risks associated with handling and transporting substantial cash after sales. Millicent, known as MG of MG Scoreset, emphasized that cashless payments have become integral to her online business, simplifying and streamlining payments from customers.

The increasing adoption of digital payments, she noted, illustrates how technology is fundamentally altering the way businesses and customers conduct transactions.
