LeBron James Leaves Sixers Camp by Helicopter for New York
James put his unique New York-to-Philadelphia commute into practice after Sixers training camp.
LeBron James departed the Philadelphia 76ers' training camp in a helicopter en route to his residence in New York, according to ESPN NBA writer Dave McMenamin. Anfernee Simons, a Sixers player, addressed media after practice on Tuesday, when a helicopter's distinct drone could be heard departing the facility. On September 29, 2026, McMenamin reported the incident on Twitter.
James announced at Media Day that he intends to reside in both New York City and Philadelphia throughout the 2026-27 season, necessitating regular air travel between the two cities, a distance of approximately 95 miles. In July, the 41-year-old signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the Sixers after eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers.
James emphasized his motivation for relocating, stating he did not abandon his family to perform poorly in the second round of the playoffs. He is scheduled to make his preseason debut against the Knicks on October 5 before Philadelphia's regular-season opener at Madison Square Garden on October 20.
