Hi DEV 👋 I'm Anish: a Mechanical Engineer Explaining ML & AI in Plain English

Hi DEV community! I'm Anish Rane, a mechanical engineer from India who has transitioned into the field of machine learning (ML). I recently completed an MSc in Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence at Liverpool John Moores University. I began writing this blog because many ML tutorials either overwhelm you with complex mathematics or omit the underlying reasoning. My goal is to provide guides that are written in plain English, with practical examples and code that you can easily run.

In this series, you will find:

🧠 Machine Learning Basics: linear and logistic regression, regularization, activation functions. Each topic is explained from first principles and is accompanied by Python/scikit-learn examples.

🤖 Fine-Tuning Large Language Models (LLMs): guidance on selecting a base model and choosing among LoRA, QLoRA, prompt-tuning, or RLHF, depending on your hardware capabilities and available data.

⚙️ Powertrain Engineering: an exploration of how diesel engines and epicyclic gears function, with a focus on how duty cycles impact engine lifespan. This section combines traditional mechanical engineering principles with a data-driven perspective.
