HelpAge Sri Lanka expressed gratitude to local and foreign donors for supporting their free cataract surgery program for elderly citizens over 55 years. The program, initiated in 2002 at HelpAge Eye Hospital in Wellawatta, has performed more than 55,000 surgeries for needy individuals. Head of the hospital, Mahanama Wijesinghe, encouraged those aged 55 and above to reach out to the hospital via phone numbers 0112555759 and 0112589450 to avail of the free cataract surgeries.
He emphasized that surgeries are conducted within 30 days of an appointment at the Eye Hospital clinic. Wijesinghe acknowledged the donors for their contributions to helping underprivileged citizens. HelpAge Executive Director, Dr. Harsha Bandara, also highlighted the organization's conduct of free medical and eye camps for needy elders.
He thanked donors for their support and appealed to philanthropists and donors to contribute towards the welfare of the needy.
