Upadhyaya was previously Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, having been transferred there in January 2025.
Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, rounds out the three new appointments. Before serving as Chief Justice of Telangana, Singh had a legal career at the Patna and Jharkhand High Courts. He was Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court before assuming the role of Chief Justice of Telangana in July 2025. The Supreme Court Collegium recommended their elevation on September 28.
