American tourist found dead alone in Patong hotel room

On the afternoon of October 4th, authorities in Phuket received a call that an American tourist had been discovered deceased inside his hotel room in the popular tourist area of Patong. Pol. Lt. Sakwanat Damcha-om, a deputy investigation inspector at the Patong Police Station, was dispatched to the scene following notification from the station chief, Pol. Col. Korakrit Khankrue.

Upon arrival, police and investigators found the body of Smith Gray Allen, a 35-year-old American national, lying on a bed within the room. Initial checks revealed no signs of forced entry or disturbance, and no other individuals were present in the room. It was also noted that Allen had been staying alone at the hotel and was scheduled to check out on the day of his discovery.

A team of investigators collaborated with an on-duty doctor to thoroughly examine the body, taking photographs and creating a crime-scene map for documentation purposes. Following this examination, the body was transported to the mortuary at Vachira Phuket Hospital by Kusoldharm Phuket rescue workers. Authorities have reached out to the US Embassy to inform the deceased’s relatives and facilitate the required procedures for handling the remains.

The cause of death has yet to be determined, and investigators are actively working to identify the circumstances surrounding Allen’s tragic passing.
