AL Division Series Game 2: Cam Schlittler vs. Freddy Peralta

St. Petersburg, Florida - April 12, 2026 - The Yankees and Rays faced off in an intense AL Division Series Game 2 at Tropicana Field, with the outcome causing serious concerns for both teams' playoff chances. The Yankees, already in peril, now face a daunting task if they were to lose this game to the Rays. While the saying "A series doesn't start until the home team loses" holds true, the Rays' disadvantage at Tropicana Field makes their task more challenging.

The Division Series has only seen eight teams return from a 0-2 deficit, including the 2001 and 2017 Yankees, who experienced a similar comeback last year. However, the 2026 Yankees are not eager to repeat that experience.

Coming off their disappointing regular season performance against the Rays, the Yankees' ace, Cam Schlittler, is expected to make a crucial appearance in Game 2. Schlittler, who finished among the top five in MVP voting, has proven his postseason brilliance, allowing only three runs over three career postseason starts against Boston and pitching eight innings of one-run ball against the Rays during the regular season.

However, the Yankees will need to rely on their bats to overcome the Rays' potent offense, led by star deadline acquisition Freddy Peralta.

Peralta, acquired from the Brewers, has shown significant improvement since the trade, posting a 3.22 ERA and a 3.93 FIP in 55.1 innings. His mid-90s four-seamer, coupled with an increased usage of changeups, will be vital for the Rays as they attempt to contain Schlittler. With a solid lineup and familiar game plan against the Yankees, the Rays will aim to prevent the home team from taking a commanding lead in the AL Division Series.
