A nation divided as Ronaldo left with big decision on Portugal future
BBC Sport looks at what could be the end of Cristiano Ronaldo's international career just days before the expected fanfare of Lionel Messi's Argentina goodbye.
Cristiano Ronaldo's international career may be nearing its end as he faced a major decision after falling out with Portugal's new coach, Jorge Jesus. Ronaldo, who scored 146 goals and has 234 caps for Portugal, opted to play on despite being made to warm up and not start against Norway and Denmark. Jesus, who managed Ronaldo at Saudi club Al-Nassr, insisted Ronaldo could return to the national team if he wanted to.
Ronaldo, furious at the treatment, walked out of the Portugal squad and wrote on social media that he would explain his reasons for leaving. Fans remain divided, with some supporting Ronaldo and criticising Jesus, while others are critical of Ronaldo's behavior. The uncertainty surrounding Ronaldo's future has left many Portuguese fans wondering if they will miss him.
