Urea sales dip 13pc in September

In September, urea sales in Pakistan experienced a notable decline, with sales falling by 13 per cent month-on-month to reach 611,000 tonnes. This decrease is mainly due to seasonal factors, although year-on-year sales did increase by 43 per cent to 4.4 million tonnes, according to Myesha Sohail of Topline Securities. The reduced inventory levels, which hit a nine-month low of 0.65 million tonnes in September, also contributed to the decline.

Among the key players, Engro Fertilisers leads with an inventory of 519,000 tonnes, followed by Fauji Fertiliser Company (FFC) at 88,000 tonnes and the Fatima Group with 29,000 tonnes.

Similarly, total DAP (di-ammonium phosphate) sales saw an even steeper decline of 39 per cent year-on-year and 50 per cent month-on-month, with September's sales down to 59,000 tonnes, a 5 per cent year-on-year decrease. The closing inventory for DAP was approximately 259,000 tonnes in September. Looking ahead, Sohail expects urea sales to grow modestly as crop prices improve.
