The 3 Best New Movies to Watch on Hulu This Week

This week, Hulu has launched a diverse collection of new movies that cater to a variety of tastes, including the 2022 hit "Barbarian," Guillermo del Toro's underrated film "Nightmare Alley," and the body horror comedy "The Substance."

"Barbarian," directed by Zach Cregger, is a horror comedy that skillfully blends terror and humor. The film, which stars Georgina Campbell and Bill Skarsgård, follows a woman whose life takes a terrifying turn after discovering that her Airbnb rental comes with a mysterious double-booking. The movie's unique blend of horror and comedy creates a thrilling rollercoaster ride that leaves viewers guessing until the very end.

Guillermo del Toro made a return to the big screen with "Nightmare Alley," a black-hearted technicolor noir based on William Lindsay Graham's 1946 novel. Starring Bradley Cooper, the film follows an ambitious carnival worker whose con-man ways eventually catch up to him when he begins selling himself as a clairvoyant. "Nightmare Alley" is a hauntingly cynical drama about the inescapability of identity, and it marks del Toro's most underrated directorial effort to date.

Lastly, "The Substance," directed by Coralie Fargeat, is a striking body horror comedy featuring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley. Set in contemporary Los Angeles, the film follows an aging celebrity whose use of an experimental black market drug leads to the creation of a younger version of her and a vicious, self-destructive battle between the two. The film's powerful performances and gonzo climax make it a standout addition to Hulu's new releases.
