Police say woman fatally stabbed 7-year-old girl walking in Chicago

A 7-year-old girl was fatally stabbed while walking on a Chicago street, according to police. The incident occurred in the Chatham neighborhood, near businesses, on Saturday morning. The child was approached by a woman carrying an unknown sharp object. The woman stabbed the girl multiple times in the back. The attacker sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently arrested by police.

The girl, identified as Edi Mari Hernandez Chacon, died at a hospital. Witnesses reported seeing the girl walking hand-in-hand with an older female on the sidewalk. Police have not disclosed any information about the relationship between the attacker and the victim.
