Police rescue 25yr old woman taken hostage in Delta

In the Delta State of Nigeria, police authorities have successfully rescued a 25-year-old woman who had been allegedly assaulted and taken hostage. The suspect in this incident, a 29-year-old man named Brotugbare Francis Onome, has also been apprehended. The event unfolded on October 3rd, 2026, in the Usieffurun Community, located within the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Delta State Police, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the rescue operation in a statement released in Warri. He revealed that the rescue took place at approximately 0830 hours on the aforementioned date. The DPO of Otu-Jeremi Division had taken action based on intelligence shared by the DPO of Ovwian-Aladja Division, leading to the mobilization of police operatives to the Usieffurun Community.

Upon arrival, the police found the victim, a 25-year-old woman, who had been subjected to assault and subsequently held hostage. The suspect, identified as Brotugbare Francis Onome, was subsequently arrested. In the course of their investigation, police officers discovered several items of contraband at the scene, including a fabricated Beretta pistol, one magazine, and two rounds of live ammunition.
