Peace Can Be Achieved Through Strength: Kubilius Calls On EU To Strengthen Support For Ukraine

For more than a year, direct talks with Russia regarding achieving peace have not produced any results, due to Russia's unwillingness to do so. When discussing direct negotiations with Moscow, many individuals are actually referring to ceasing aid to Ukraine, which is deemed unacceptable. According to EU Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius, speaking at the Euronews defense summit in Brussels, the most effective route to peace is continuing to provide aid.

When asked if it's time to enter direct negotiations with Moscow, Kubilius stated that negotiations should not imply halting aid, as this would be akin to admitting defeat. He believes that peace can be achieved through strength, specifically on Ukraine's side. Kubilius expressed skepticism about the outcomes of negotiations and other interactions with Russia by the US and various European nations.

He firmly disagreed that surrendering would enhance Ukraine's security or that of the EU. Kubilius pointed out that this situation has persisted for over a year without yielding any results, and Russia appears to understand that escalating the situation might be feasible. He noted that the Russians are unequivocally defending their stance: Ukraine must surrender the territory of Donbas and everything else.

In Kubilius' view, this would not secure the safety of either Ukraine or Europe, as it would signify a victory for Putin. He suggested that Ukraine could be the EU's most significant support, and Putin desires to see the war coming closer to Russia in order to conclude it.
