One of Japan’s best convenience store egg sandwiches is one you won’t find at the big three chains

Japan's biggest convenience store chains, 7-Eleven, Family Mart, and Lawson, all offer quality baked goods. However, Daily Yamazaki, owned by Japan's largest baking company, excels in this area. Upon entering a Daily Yamazaki store, it's always wise to explore the sandwich section. During a recent visit, a standout convenience store egg sandwich was discovered.

Japanese egg sandwiches are often more akin to egg salad sandwiches. Daily Yamazaki's new Egg Sandwich with a Whole Boiled Egg (Yudetamago Ikko Shiyo Tamago Sando) lives up to its name and captivates with its enticing appearance. The sandwich features three cross sections of the boiled egg displayed between slices of bread, hinting at a substantial eggy meal.

Despite being a single-cut sandwich, the generous fillings promise a hearty experience. The boiled egg is neatly sliced into three pieces, with the egg salad generously slathered to the edges of the bread, creating a hybrid-style egg sandwich.

Upon flipping a piece of bread, it was confirmed that Daily Yamazaki doesn't skimp on the egg salad spread. Taking a bite revealed a rich, creamy mixture of egg white and yolk flavors, accompanied by an inviting contrast of melty egg salad and firmer boiled egg slices. This created a delightful balance, offering two distinct egg sandwich experiences in one.

For those seeking a more focused eggy experience, Daily Yamazaki also offers an Ajiwai ("Flavorful") Egg Sandwich. This version incorporates a dash of spicy dressing into the traditional egg salad filling, resulting in an abundance of ingredients spilling over the bread. Although slightly pricier at 334 yen (US$2.10) compared to the Ajiwai, the visually appealing and delicious Whole Boiled Egg sandwich is highly recommended for a satisfying cholesterol cheat day.
