Money row emerges as suspected motive in Terengganu man’s death, brother under remand

KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 4 — According to police, a mentally challenged man from Terengganu may have killed his elder brother due to dissatisfaction with the frequent financial requests their parents made on behalf of their brother, the police chief revealed. The 43-year-old victim was found dead after suffering severe injuries from a blunt object, while the suspect, a 36-year-old man with a mental disability, was arrested shortly after the incident in Bukit Payong.

The suspect's 42-year-old sister also sustained injuries while attempting to intervene in the attack. Police spokesperson Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin announced the suspect's arrest at a press conference following the incident. He claimed that the suspect's motive was his brother's substance abuse issues and his constant demand for money from the family.

The injured sister was currently receiving treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for her head, thumb, and spleen injuries. The police have remanded the suspect to Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
