John Boadu elected NPP National Chairman

John Boadu has been chosen as the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after their National Delegates Conference on October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. Boadu won the election with a significant lead, receiving 2,888 votes, while his closest rival, Boakye Agyarko, obtained 2,408 votes. Other candidates, including former Chairman Paul Afoko and Sammy Crabbe, garnered 790 votes and 41 votes respectively.

In his remarks following the announcement, Boadu stated, "The party is key. For me, I don’t think it will be difficult to get them on board." This victory represents a significant political resurgence for Boadu, who previously held the position of General Secretary within the party. In the lead-up to the elections, it was noted that Sammy Crabbe had withdrawn from the race to collaborate with Boadu, which likely bolstered Boadu's support on election day.

The closely fought chairmanship contest was a focal point of the 2026 National Executives Election, which saw thousands of delegates from throughout Ghana converge in Kumasi. Boadu is anticipated to spearhead the party's restructuring initiatives in preparation for the 2028 general elections.
