Kepong Lim Lip Eng, a Kepong MP, stated that objections from certain groups should not be the deciding factor on whether an event can proceed or not. During a statement, he criticized police for suggesting that the concert by American gospel singer Israel Houghton in Sabah might incite hatred or violence. Lim argued that police should explain why the sensitivity arising from Houghton's concert cannot be managed through standard safety regulations.

He emphasized that the main responsibility of police is to ensure safety, and anyone threatening to disrupt the event should be dealt with accordingly. Lim stressed that public safety should not be an occasional reason to allow individuals to use unrest to determine who can perform and who can listen. The Sabah Police Commissioner Jauteh Dikun previously stated that the advice to delay the concert was based on public reaction and societal sensitivity.

Policing also received two reports related to the concert. Dikun said that Houghton and his supporters' backing of Israel had sparked sensitivity among the public. He noted that the promoter has not yet submitted a formal request to the state government, despite the date, venue, and ticket prices being advertised. The concert, scheduled from 10:00 PM to 25 October in several locations in Kota Kinabalu, is part of Houghton's international tour, with Sabah among his stops in Malaysia.

Former Chief Minister Salleh Said Keruak and Shafie Apdal both said the concert should be allowed to proceed if safety concerns can be addressed reasonably. Both leaders said it was in line with the right of Christian believers in Sabah to practice their faith peacefully and the need for mutual respect.
