Gurgaon’s Shankar Chowk to get traffic relief
Gurgaon's Shankar Chowk will receive traffic relief measures as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has given approval for two new road structures. These projects aim to reduce congestion around Shankar Chowk and Cyber City.
The first project is a right-turn underpass below the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, which will allow vehicles from DLF Phase 3 to make a direct right turn towards Delhi, bypassing the existing U-turn flyover near Cyber City. The underpass will be approximately 600 meters long and three lanes wide.
The second project is a one-way flyover along the NH-8 service road, measuring around 1.3 kilometers in length. It will provide ramps for vehicles exiting the existing U-turn underpass and cater to traffic heading towards Cyber City, Udyog Vihar, Sikanderpur, and DLF Phase 3. Additionally, the flyover will offer an alternative route for traffic originating from Ambience Mall and DLF's Downtown development.
Both projects, estimated at Rs 300 crore, are to be constructed by DLF at its own cost. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) had previously cleared these proposals last month. NHAI issued the approval on October 1, following a meeting chaired by the NHAI chairman in October last year. Construction will adhere to safety conditions set by NHAI, requiring adequate safety arrangements, traffic marshals, flagmen, and appropriate traffic-control equipment.
