'Divorce, Rs 30 lakh hospital bill': What led to techie's fatal jump from Supernova

Noida witnessed a tragic incident on Saturday when a 28-year-old software engineer named Sambhav Jain took his own life by jumping from the balcony of a 41st-floor Airbnb in Supernova, Sector 94. The incident came to light when AC mechanics working at a nearby flat found him hanging from the balcony railing and attempted to persuade him to step back. Jain, a resident of IMT Manesar, had checked into the Airbnb alone around 3 pm on Friday.

Two videos of the incident have surfaced, one recorded by a resident of the 17th floor of another tower and the other by an AC repair team member from a nearby balcony. Both videos capture the technicians trying to communicate with Jain before he jumps.

Upon receiving information, a team from Sector 126 police station reached the spot and identified Jain using ID cards found in his room. He had left his home three days prior, staying at various hotels before arriving in Noida. Police are currently examining WhatsApp conversations between Jain and his father over a monetary dispute. It appears that his father insisted he return home, but Jain refused, stating that he would repay all the debts first.

The SHO further revealed that Jain's personal difficulties, particularly his recent divorce and the premature birth of his baby, which incurred medical expenses exceeding Rs 30 lakh, may have contributed to his decision. Jain had borrowed money to cover these expenses.

Upon the scene, a team of police and officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) conducted an inspection and collected evidence. CCTV footage from the building and surrounding areas is being analyzed. An inquest report has been prepared, and the body has been sent for an autopsy.
