Yogi Govt Expands Electric Vehicle Charging Network Across The State, Targets 1,500 Locations In Second Phase Of PM E-DRIVE Scheme

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is rapidly expanding the state's public electric vehicle charging network as part of the PM E-DRIVE scheme. The ambitious project aims to install charging stations at a total of 1,500 locations across the state, with a particular focus on the National Capital Region (NCR) and key freight transport corridors.

Under the first phase of the scheme, 238 locations have been approved in 20 clusters. While 99 MoUs (Memorandums of Understanding) have been signed for these locations, 139 others still await formal agreements. The proposed network includes 39 charging points in Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida-Greater Noida), 6 in Ghaziabad, and 35 in Meerut. In the non-NCR region, sites are planned in Agra (21), Prayagraj (13), Gorakhpur (32), Kanpur (12), Kanpur Dehat (2), Lucknow (36), Mathura (14), and Varanasi (28).

The second phase of the PM E-DRIVE scheme, targeting 1,500 locations, builds upon this foundation. So far, 240 potential sites have been identified, with 1,260 more locations still in the pipeline. Under the expanded plan, 129 locations have been singled out for inclusion in municipal corporation areas, covering 22 in Aligarh, 13 in Ayodhya, 16 in Bareilly, and 15 in Firozabad, among others.

Notably, the scheme extends to various government departments and organizations, including the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, Industrial Development Authority, universities, and district hospitals. Proposed charging stations are designed to accommodate two 60-kilowatt DC chargers and one 12-kilowatt AC/DC charger, ensuring a robust charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

District Magistrates have been directed to identify suitable locations and submit proposals, facilitating a timely rollout of this crucial infrastructure.
