‘Use official complaints channel’: Fahmi urges public to report ethical media concerns to Malaysian Media Council

Shah Alam, October 3 — The public are urged to report ethics-related concerns about local media reporting to the Malaysian Media Council (MMM), Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil announced. Fahmi emphasized the importance of using the proper channels to prevent misunderstandings and damage to the media industry's integrity.

"If it concerns reporting by the media itself, I would suggest that members of the public, who have concerns about a news headline or anything they wish to raise with the media, use the official complaints channel through the MMM. There is a link that can be accessed," he said. The statement came after Fahmi officiated the Madani Kita Programme with the Kota Anggerik @ Shah Alam community.

The previous day, the Putrajaya Media Club (KMP) had lodged reports with the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over a social media post that allegedly manipulated images of media personnel into animal images. Fahmi pointed out that the MCMC had identified multiple social media accounts spreading offensive content using AI applications to alter images of Tun Dr Mahathir following his wife's passing.

The authorities are taking action and investigating the responsible parties. Fahmi reminded media professionals to respect the family's wishes during their mourning period and prayed for Tun Dr Mahathir and his family to find strength during this challenging time.
