Troy Parrott: signing 24-year-old La Liga breakout star in January can instantly transform Man United into title contenders – opinion

Manchester United is grappling with a lack of strikers this season, as they have struggled to sell Joshua Zirkzee and Benjamin Sesko has continued to battle injury issues. With Matheus Cunha or Bryan Mbeumo having to step up as a false nine, it's clear that United must address this deficiency soon. One player who is gaining considerable attention as a potential solution is Troy Parrott, a 24-year-old La Liga breakout star.

Hailing from Dublin, Parrott rose through Tottenham Hotspur's youth system before making a significant impact with AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch league. In just 97 games, he scored an impressive 51 goals, earning him a transfer to Real Betis in Spain. His talents have also been recognized internationally, with Parrott scoring a stunning hat-trick for Ireland in a World Cup playoff, finishing as the lone hero against Hungary.

His impressive form continues, as he has scored nine goals in six matches for the Irish national team. As a striker, Parrott is well-rounded, possessing a clean first touch, precise coordination under pressure, and a composed finishing technique inside the box. Remarkably, he can utilize either foot and is improving his heading ability, showcasing his adaptability in different roles.

His tactical flexibility allows him to operate both as a target man in the box or as a more mobile striker, running the channels with efficiency. His rapid rise, characterized by a blend of technical quality, mobility, and maturing decision-making skills, positions him as a genuine upward potential striker. With a lineage of successful Irish players at Manchester United, including George Best, Harry Gregg, Roy Keane, and Denis Irwin, it would be prudent for the Red Devils to secure Parrott before he becomes a valuable asset for another club.
