Pakistan Reveals When Its First Ever Rover Will Land on the Moon

Pakistan plans to launch its first lunar rover, Jinnah-1, on the Moon in 2028, according to Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) Chairman Yousuf Khan. Speaking at an event marking World Space Week, Khan noted Pakistan’s space program has advanced significantly in recent years, especially in producing locally operated satellites.

He highlighted that Pakistan is now relying more on its own satellites rather than depending on European and Chinese systems. In January 2025, SUPARCO launched its EO-1 satellite, followed by two additional ones in July and October of the same year, bringing the total of operational Earth observation satellites to six. These satellites serve various sectors such as agriculture, urban and development planning, and natural disaster management.

Khan further explained that satellite technology is enhancing internet access and television coverage nationwide. He emphasized that continued investment in the space sector will strengthen Pakistan’s technological capabilities and broaden the use of satellite-based services across different domains. Khan stressed the importance of public engagement, stating that World Space Week is crucial for introducing young people to space science and technology.
