‘Our people expect security that allows them to live peacefully’ – Zulum tells North-East govs

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has urged North-Eastern governors to prioritize security, emphasizing that a peaceful environment is crucial for the region's economic and social progress. Speaking at the 10th opening of the North East Governors' Forum (NEGF) in Maiduguri, Zulum, who chaired the event, highlighted the recent improvements in security in the region, crediting the Nigerian Armed Forces, state collaboration, and initiatives like the Safe Corridor Initiative.

The latter has facilitated the surrender and rehabilitation of insurgents, although Zulum cautioned against complacency, stressing that security remains vital for fostering growth in areas such as healthcare, education, and overall economic development.

Zulum also showcased several development initiatives by North-eastern governors, including the construction of 10-megawatt solar power plants in each of the six states. The states are further collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development to enhance livestock production, veterinary care, and processing facilities.

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has also procured approximately 10,000 electric vehicles and e-tricycles, which are anticipated to bolster transportation and stimulate economic activities across the six states. Zulum urged the states to bolster systems for storing, processing, and trading farm produce to mitigate post-harvest losses and elevate the value of agricultural products.

"I guarantee you, our people expect results," Zulum stated. "They desire security to live peacefully, roads connecting their communities, schools that equip their children for the future, hospitals that save lives, employment opportunities restoring dignity, and economies that enable families to prosper."
