Manager held three more days over alleged RM200m tax reduction fraud

A Malaysian financial and corporate services company manager's remand has been extended for an additional three days to assist in the investigation into allegations of manipulating documents to obtain a tax reduction of roughly RM200 million, according to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). The 40-year-old suspect was initially granted a three-day remand, which commenced last Thursday, and will now remain in custody until October 6.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect manipulated around 480 company accounts using fraudulent documents between 2018 and the present. Additionally, it is alleged that the man bribed an enforcement agency official to aid his activities and amassed significant wealth through illicit operations. Following further inquiries by the MACC, raids were conducted at 12 locations, including the suspect's office and residence, resulting in the seizure of 25 luxury vehicles valued at approximately RM25 million.

The MACC also froze seven bank accounts, consisting of four personal accounts and three company accounts, with a collective value of roughly RM3 million.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the remand extension and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.
