Late score boosts Mount Vernon over East Newton

Mount Vernon edged out East Newton 10-8 in a game that saw a late field goal secure the victory for the Mountaineers. The game was closely contested, with Mount Vernon leading 7-0 at the half, but a series of events in the second half swung the momentum. A turnover-on-downs, a long run, and a fumble recovery set up Carson Rinehart for the game-winning score. Despite the late surge, East Newton will now face the Nevada Tigers, while Mount Vernon heads to Lamar next week.
