Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar plans regional cultural showcase in Dasara procession

The Dasara finale may feature tableaux from neighbouring States; Defence Ministry requested to consider air show in Mysuru

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar plans regional cultural showcase in Dasara procession

Karnataka's Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has announced plans for a regional cultural showcase during the Mysuru Dasara procession this year. Shivakumar proposed that neighboring states participate by exhibiting their culture through tableaux in the procession. Speaking to reporters on October 3, he emphasized that the initiative aims to bring about changes in how Dasara is organized.

"Our water goes to neighboring States, people from neighboring States come to our State, and our vegetables are supplied to these States. When this is the case, let the neighboring States also participate in Dasara by bringing their tableaux showcasing their culture," he stated. Shivakumar has also requested the Chief Ministers of southern states to attend the Mysuru Dasara festivities and is in touch with them to confirm their participation.

He expressed confidence in an air show during Dasara and requested the Defence Minister to consider involving the state's armed forces personnel in the procession. Their participation, he said, would motivate young people and instill discipline among them. Shivakumar instructed officials to provide a platform for Tibetans settled in Bylakuppe near Periyapatna to present a cultural performance during Dasara.

He also mentioned that film stars, including upcoming actors and actresses, would participate in the procession, and the Kannada film industry would be represented during the festivities, with the Chamber of Commerce agreeing to support the initiative. Out of Karnataka's 240 taluks, 207 have been declared drought-affected, marking the worst situation in the last 150 years.

A Central team has arrived in the state to assess the situation, with three teams touring different parts of Karnataka to get a detailed understanding of the crisis.
