‘It ended in one day’: Raju Kher recalls brother Anupam Kher’s first marriage to Madhumalti

Actress Madhumalti Kapoor and actor Anupam Kher's brief first marriage came to an abrupt end just a day after they tied the knot. According to Raju Kher, Anupam's elder brother, the wedding took place at a temple in Lucknow. Raju revealed that the couple had been together for two to three years before deciding to marry. Madhumalti suggested the marriage, prompting Anupam to agree on the spot.

The actor explained that they got married on the same day they decided to do so, adding that Anupam left the temple the following day, stating, "I cannot stay here." Raju further shared that Anupam had initially come to Shimla for a few days before heading to Delhi. At the time, Anupam had not yet entered the Hindi film industry, while Raju was in Shimla.

It was later revealed that the family was unaware of the marriage since no family member had been present at the temple. Madhumalti later married writer-director Ranjit Kapoor, and Anupam Kher went on to marry Kirron Kher in 1985.
