I can’t say Akufo-Addo and I are friends, but we’re not enemies – Konadu Apraku

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku has shared insights into how his decision to challenge Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2007 party primary altered their once-strong working relationship. Apraku, who had previously served as Akufo-Addo’s campaign manager, revealed that their bond shifted after he opted to enter the race after an earlier contest fell short of victory.

Speaking to Accra-based Citi News at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, Apraku stated that while they had once collaborated intensively, the outcome of the first race and events that followed led to a distancing of their relationship. "I was his campaign manager, and we worked like crazy, and somehow, we did not win the first race and a lot of things happened in the interim as a result of that, so I joined the race, and this is where he and I have not been able to see well for each other," Apraku explained.

He clarified that while they are not friends, they are also not enemies, emphasizing the mutual busyness of both parties. Apraku was one of 17 candidates who participated in the 2007 NPP Special National Delegates Congress to choose the party’s presidential nominee for the 2008 general election. Akufo-Addo emerged victorious with 1,096 votes, constituting 48% of the valid votes cast, followed by Alan Kyerematen with 738 votes and Dr Apraku with 19 votes, representing just 0.8% of the total.
