Great Job, Internet!: Let former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin walk you through his 12-years-and-running Minecraft city
As it turns out, Tomlin (who started poking at the sandbox game as a way to connect with his three kids, and then just continued poking at it after they all aged out of its demographics) has apparently been playing on the same Minecraft map for 12 years at this point, and was convinced by his son to show the results to the world.
Mike Tomlin's retirement from the Pittsburgh Steelers after an impressive 19-year career has led to a new and unexpected hobby: Minecraft streaming. The former NFL head coach, who led the Steelers to two Super Bowl appearances and one win, has been playing the block-based game for 12 years, often in Creative mode without the challenges of resource collection or monster encounters. His son, Dino, inspired Tomlin to share his Minecraft creations with the world through a new YouTube channel.
Tomlin's Minecraft city is a testament to his architectural aspirations, featuring meticulously crafted buildings, sports stadiums, and even a few CVS pharmacies. What sets his city apart is the way Tomlin presents it, exuding a calming and positive demeanor. The Steelers coach, who spent nearly two decades managing high-alpha personalities on the field, now shares his love for Minecraft with a soothing and gentle approach. In just two days since posting his first video, the video has garnered over 2 million views.
Tomlin's Minecraft journey has not gone unnoticed, with some of his former NFL rivals joking about his new endeavor. One analyst even suggested a drop in the Steelers' playoff win rate from 62.5% to 25% following Tomlin's foray into the Minecraft world. Despite the mixed reactions, Tomlin's dedication to his craft and his ability to maintain a positive outlook is evident, making his Minecraft creation a source of joy for many viewers.
